This text uses activities to address both the Key Stages 1 and 2 Programmes of Study for Science "Life processes and living things", with reference also to the Scottish 5-14 Guidelines for Environmental Studies "Understanding living things and life processes". Following the programme of study, the chapters are: life processes; humans as organisms; green plants as organisms; variation and classification and living things in the environment. Covering the National Curriculum General Requirements for Science, this book includes discussion starters, things to make, and sheets to plan, record and evaluate in Experimental and Investigative science. The activities are designed to work alongside any scheme of work, but it is intended that certain groups of pages be used together to build up a concept, such as the difference between living and non-living. The teachers' notes provide background subject information, suggestions for assessment and extension work, and highlight any issues of health and safety.
