Howard Pyle (1853 - 1911) was an American illustrator and author, primarily of books for young people. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, he spent the last year of his life in Florence, Italy. Anglo-Irish poet, satirist and clergyman, Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), was born in Dublin to English parents. He embarked on a career as diplomatic secretary and became increasingly involved in politics. He published many satirical works of verse and prose, including A Tale of a Tub, A Modest Proposal, and Gulliver's Travels. Susan Wood is the author of the forthcoming picture-book biography Esquivel! Space-Age Sound Artist, illustrated by Duncan Tonatiuh. She lives in Norfolk, Virginia. Ross MacDonald is the illustrator of many books for children, including Henry Hand and Hit the Road, Jack. He lives in Connecticut. Jack London (1876-1916) was a journalist, as well as a prolific and best-selling novelist, best known for his novels The Call of the Wild and White Fang. Rudyard Kipling died in 1936 and is buried in Westminster Abbey. Robert Louis Stevenson is perhaps best-known today for 'Treasure Island' and 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'.
