The Emperor's Winding Sheet

This story is set in Constantinople at its fall to the Turks. Piers Barber has been sent abroad from England by his uncle on an English trade ship, after his father's sudden illness makes educating him further impossible. The ship is wrecked and Piers taken by pirates. Eventually he ends up in the hands of Constantine, the soon to be crowned emperor. But Constantinople is doomed to fall in 1453.
