Elsie Dinsmore

Elsie is eight years old. Her mother is dead and she has never met her father. Her relatives are indifferent to her and her feelings, but she is loved and taught by her negro nurse. Then her longed-for father comes home but having completely neglected and abandoned her for eight years, he acts as if he is now entitled to control her every choice and demand her love and loyalty. Elsie is very virtuous despite all her sufferings, because of her relationship with God.Over the course of the story father and daughter learn to love and understand each other.
