This book contains three original stories written in a fairytale style. In the first story, a small thistle, alone among all the beautiful flowers of the garden, has the wisdom and courage to help a childless king and queen. Then there are the adventures of Tomkin, the little tailor, who dreams of being a king and learns a lesson about keeping promises from his trusty, three-legged stool. Finally there is a tale of the wizard's daughter, the Little Beekeeper, and her three rude and foolish, older brothers. Vivian French has written "Jackson's Juniors", "Under the Moon", "Zenobia and Mouse", "Mary Poggs and the Sunshine", "Once Upon a Time", "Why the Sea is Salt", "Baker Ben", "Doctor Elsie", "Lazy Jack", "A Song for Little Toad", "Caterpillar Caterpillar" (shortlisted for the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award); "The Apple Trees" and "Spider Watching". Chris Fisher is the illustrator of "Princess Primrose" (also by Vivian French), "Pappy Mashy" and "Under the Moon".
