Seventeen-year-old Chip Clewt fights to save the black bears in the Powhatan Swamp, a National Wildlife Refuge, in North Carolina. Chip Clewt, known simply as the weirdo, lives like a hermit in the Powhatan Swamp. A hunting ban on the Powhatan is about to expire and the environmentalists want to protect the wildlife but the hunters are ready to go. Then someone completely unexpected comes forward to spearhead the conservation effort--the weirdo.
