This text examines the different types of forces, including pushes and pulls, twists and turns, and how they can create or affect movement. 28 photocopiable sheets offer the teacher ready-made, practical classroom materials, and each worksheet features a suggested extension activity to stimulate discussion and to keep the task open-ended. Activities cover the following areas: balanced and unbalanced forces; friction and resistance; springs and elastic bands; magnetism and gravity. The accompanying teachers' notes provide background information, explain the purpose and possible outcome of each activity, give general advice on classroom organization and safety issues and suggest ideas for possible extension work. The book covers the "Forces and Motion" strand of Physical Processes in the science National Curriculum and tables are included to highlight links with the Scottish 5-14 Guidelines and the Northern Ireland science Curriculum.
