When Mrs. Searcy and Mr. Long decide to get married, their children - seven Longs (from the country) and five Searcys (from the city) - are anything but happy. On the day of the wedding, there is fussing and fighting on both sides, But a swarm on honeybees, skittish horses, and a wagonload of belongings ultimately reconcile the group as one big, dirty family.
