This series of books provides ready-made ideas for developing all the essential skills within the Early Learning Goals and also many of those covered by Baseline Assessment schemes. Each book takes one particular skill and includes double-page spreads of activity ideas. The left hand page provides a practical group activity using resources typically found in any nursery setting. This is supported with a photocopiable activity on the right-hand page which consolidates the learning and provides an assessment record of each child's individual achievement. The final page contains a photocopiable Skills Development Chart to place in each child's persona; portfolio. Young children's PROBLEM-SOLVING skills develop alongside their natural curiosity and attempts to make sense of the world around them. This book focuses on developing children's problem-solving skills in a variety of cross-curricular situations. Individual and whole group practical activities are used to give children opportunities to carry out tasks that include experimenting and working with materials, learning how to sort and classify information to find answers to simple questions and to find out how things work. The activities include making a jigsaw puzzle, planning a picnic and thinking about how we see in the dark. * Nothing like it for this age range * Assessment links * Photocopiable sheets * Skills an essential part of early learning * Based on the Early learning Goals * Skills Development chart
