The Hodder Reading Project Level 4-5 identifies blocks to progression and takes pupils from National Curriculum Level 4 to Level 5. It comprises the Teacher's Resource, Pupil's Book and 6 Readers. Reader 1, Hauntings by Susan Price. An anthology of gentle and accessible ghost stories. The main themes of the stories are the links between the present and a past which can be detected beneath the layers of modern civilisation. Sue Hackman is a Key Stage 3 Literacy Pilot Director for the National Literacy Strategy. Susan Price is the acclaimed author of many books for children of all ages. In 1987 she won the Carnegie Medal for her novel The Ghost Drum and in 1994 was shortlisted again for Heads and Tales (both Faber). Her work draws inspiration from her native Black Country, where she still lives.
