In this collection the reader will find tales of Christmas past and present, in the country and the city, among the rich and the poor, the young and the old - Christmas in its many different moods and aspects. It includes lonely Mr Hegarty's moving discovery in "King of Kings", a young girl's eventful last country Christmas in "Lanterns Across the Snow", the fairy-tale magic of "The Glass Angels" and the award-winning nativity prose-poem "Can It Be True?". Susan Hill is the author of "Can It Be True?" which was the 1988 Smarties Book Prize 6-8 years Category Winner, and "I Won't Go There Again", "Septimus Honeydew", "Friends Next-Door", "A Very Special Birthday", "Beware Beware", "King of Kings", "The Glass Angels" and "The Walker Book of Ghost Stories". John Lawrence has twice won the Francis Williams Book Illustration Award, and twice shortlisted for the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award for "Emily's Own Elephant" and "A New Treasury of Poetry". He also illustrated "Watership Down".

Susan Hill is the author of many books for children, including several My Readers and her acclaimed novel Whistle in the Dark . She lives in Portland, OR.
