Down among the wilderness of the sand dunes stand six wooden shacks, commonly known as the Ramshackles. Beetle's grandpa and Abby's grandma live there, which is how the two children come to meet. At first, they are like chalk and cheese: Beetle, fanatical player of Fantasy Adventure Games, and serious, boffin-like Abby, creator of such important scientific projects as the silver tent-like biosphere, a kind of self-contained world. But when vandals strike and Beetle's grandpa is hurt, the two children form an unlikely alliance to try and save the Ramshackles from the machinations of a local developer. Susan Gates is also the author of "The Burnhope Wheel", "Deadline for Danny's Beach" and "Beware the Killer Coat".
