When Edward trips over his home-made Guy Fawkes one night, he doesn't know that this is to be the last moment of his life. At first, being a ghost doesn't hold much charm for Edward - he's compelled to stay dressed in a grubby t-shirt and his sister's fluffy slippers for all eternity.

But then Edward meets the other ghostly inhabitants of 13 City Road, who quickly inform him of the importance of hanging on to his 'Essence of Being'. Essence of Being is to a ghost what blood is to a human - essential! And outside the doors of the house live all sorts of vampire-like ghosts, keen to steal the Essence of Being from whoever they can ... When Edward ventures Outside, determined to get hold of some Essence of Being for one of his new-found friends, his adventures really begin.
