Sam McBratney was born in Belfast in 1945. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin and taught for many years before becoming a full time writer. Sam Usher studied illustration, graduating in 2008. His first book, Have You Seen Sassoon? was longlisted for the Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for the Red House Children's Book Award and the Waterstones Children's Book Prize.
