"Toppling" by Rhian Nest James follows the gripping journey of a young girl, Cat, who grapples with the complexities of adolescence while navigating her family's struggles and her own identity. Set in a small Welsh community, the story delves into themes of love, loss, and resilience. As Cat faces pressures from her peers and familial expectations, she discovers her passion for climbing, which becomes a metaphor for her desire to rise above her circumstances. Through her adventures in the landscape of her home, Cat learns to confront her fears and embrace her true self, ultimately seeking empowerment and connection in a challenging world.
