"Resource Bank" is a series of English, maths and science books for Key Stages 1 and 2 that provide teachers with a variety of resources - an A1 double-sided poster, photocopiables and lesson plans - focusing on particular skills or curriculum content knowledge. The lesson plans are structured to support direct teaching of the whole class followed by differential group/individual work. Written and produced in collaboration with the London Planetarium, the book should help teachers bring "space" into the classroom. Activities covering humankind's developing understanding of space and exploration of it; the features of the moon, sun and planets; and ways of understanding natural phenomena such as night and day and the seasons are all approached. This title contains an A1 poster showing colour, photographic images of the Earth, Moon and Sun, a comet and space exploration, and a map of the main constellations, a moon map, quotes regarding exploring space and a solar system chart. The book includes sections on the Earth, Sun and Moon; night and day; reasons for the seasons; Earth's closest neighbour; the Sun's family - the solar system; where to go next - planetariums, local junior astronomy societies, cyberspace. There are also photocopiable activity and glossary sheets with each section, to support the relevant vocabulary development.
