Alan Lee, winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal, illustrated the centenary editions of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and, more recently, The Children of Hurin. He lives in South Devon, U. K. Rosemary Sutcliff, who passed away in 1992, was the author of many highly acclaimed historical novels for both children and adults. Rosemary Sutcliff has written many historical novels for children. The Lantern Bearers won the Carnegie Medal. Rosemary Sutcliff received an OBE in 1975 and in 1993, the year after her death, was awarded the CBE.

The Iliad
The story of the ten year war that preceded Odysseus's long journey home to Ithaca begins with Prince Paris's abduction of Helen of Sparta, and goes on to the quarrel between Agamemnon and Achilles, and the great battles under the walls of Troy towards the end of the siege that result in the deaths of Patroclus, the Trojan hero Hector, and finally Achilles himself.
