This is a bind-up of two existing books: TOM'S PRIVATE WAR and TOM'S WAR PATROL. Both books are set in a small country town during WWII and view the events of the war through the eyes of 11-year-old Tom and his gang of friends. The first book is set in the period of the phoney war; the second book is set at the time of Dunkirk and the bombing of big cities like Liverpool. The books tackle the miseries of rationing, the vulnerability of evacuees, the stark differences between games and reality and the death of friends. Big issues in easy-to-read books.
