Cosi is a modern theatre classic by celebrated Australian playwright Louis Nowra. With the help of an amateur theatre director, a group of patients in a mental hospital decide to stage a production of Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte as a form of therapy. Through a series of hilarious ups and downs, the ill-prepared and emotionally challenged players grapple with their seemingly impossible task. Despite major cast changes and a couple of near disasters, they finally present the opera in a live performance. The experience has been transformative. Study of the play is set, in this study guide, within the larger context of the NSW English Area of Study curriculum - 'The Journey'. The guide provides background material on the journey theme, examines the prescribed Stimulus Booklet ('Journeys') in detail, and offers students ways of reading the text in relation to the Area of Study theme.
