Matt takes his shabby old stuffed toy, Watt the Dog, with him everywhere. But in time he grows up, and doesn't notice when Watt falls into the river and is swept away. Down the river goes Watt, past fields, woods and villages, until he is found by a little girl who takes him home to love.
