The world's first atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. A press release spoke of "the greatest achievement of organized science in history". But the events of this time can be seen from many points of view. This book looks at the story of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from the perspectives of the scientists who developed the atom bomb; the politicians who decided to use it; the air crew who bombed the two cities; the Japanese survivors; and their leaders who finally surrendered. It also considers how the world has changed since the start of the atomic age.
