This book considers the causes of the 1930s depression which was most striking in the USA but whose shock waves of economic crisis were felt the world over. It reveals the experiences both of individuals who were affected by poverty and unemployment and of people who remained in work. It shows how the leadership of different countries found different ways of responding to the crisis. It ends by discussing the lessons learned for the future.
