Great for age 3-15 years
Nestor is a monkey who one day decides that he wants to go fishing on his own. His father finally agrees to let him go, but only after he has warned Nestor of all the animals he must avoid, such as hedgehogs because they prickle, and alligators because they bite. Nestor then sets off to the river, but just as he has cast his line he hears lots of noise in the bushes and sees an elephant appear. Nestor's father had warned him about elephants as well, they are big and clumsy and may stomp on him. So Nestor gathers up his things and tries to find another spot on the riverbank from where to fish. However things do not quite work to plan and Nestor has to rely on one of the other animals to help him out, forcing him to change his opinion of the animals. This is a very sweet tale about how appearances can be deceptive. The illustrations are really pretty, this would make a lovely gift book for a young child. -- Miranda Warren
