Daniel's uneventful life changes when he meets Jess. She's wild and adventurous, and persuades Daniel to burgle her house. When he's there, however, he meets a real burglar and finds himself caught up in a crazy chain of events, getting ever more involved in Jess's wild schemes. At first Daniel is apalled, but at the end of the book, when he has the chance to break free from Jess, he doesn't take it. Jess has changed his life. He has been carried away.
