(Viking, 1974), which won the Horn Book Award. McGovern spent part of her career at Scholastic, where she created the See-Saw Book Club. McGovern lives in New York City. George Ulrich, illustrator of Sam and Gram and the First Day of School , has been illustrating children's books for more than 25 years. The father of two grown sons and the grandfather of one small granddaughter, he lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Suzanne, who is also an artist.
