Amy is going on her own to stay with her grandmother for three nights and takes her three best things. As each night passes, she feels dreadfully homesick but then she remembers her three best things. One by one they magically come to life and transport her back home where she can see everything is well. But on the third night her house is deserted and Amy is distraught and unconsolable. However, she soon learns it is because her mother was missing her so much that she has come to visit - and there she is to reassure and comfort Amy.

The Author: Belinda Hollyer lives in London. She worked first with children as a teacher and librarian, and then in the book business as a publisher for many years. This is her first book for children. The Illustrator: Robin Bell Corfield lives in Leicestershire where he works as an illustrator and artist. He has illustrated several books for children and is published by Harper Collins, Oxford University Press and Mathew Price. Philippa Pearce was a beloved children's writer. Her titles include Here Comes Tod, Minnow on the Say, The Battle of Bubble and Squeak (Winner of the Whitbread Children's Book Award) and the classic Tom's Midnight Garden, for which she was awarded the Carnegie Medal. Philippa passed away in 2006.
