A set of school text books. The book for grade 10 has five units: two on S Africa -on land and labour 1840 to 1880, and on diamonds and conquest 1867-1880, followed by a unit on Africa and the slave trade, on the industrial revolution in Britain and then a final unit on the French revolution and Bonaparte. Grade 11, has an introduction looking at the 19th century as a whole with further units in the far East, the USA, Russia, S Africa 1886-1924, and the partition of Africa. Grade 12 looks at the 20th century with units on the USA, Russia, fascism and WW2, the Cold War, de-colonisation in Africa, South Africa from 1924-48, and South Africa 1948-1998. Well illustrated with many maps and illustrations, notes on sources and their use, 'How to' boxes, builds skills (essay writing, analytical thinking, class debates). Index, well illustrated with many photos, cartoons, drawings and maps, notes on further reading.
