She has a special interest in writing stories about women who can serve as role models for today's girls. Caravantes has a bachelor's degree in English from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and a master's of education, with an emphasis on educational administration, from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She has served as a teacher of English and history, as a principal, and as a deputy superintendent for instruction. She lives in San Antonio.
