Narnia a land frozen in eternal winter a country waiting to be set free. Four adventurers step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change and a great sacrifice. The story follows four siblingsPeter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensiewho are evacuated to the countryside during World War II. While exploring their new home, Lucy discovers a wardrobe that serves as a portal to the magical land of Narnia, which is under the spell of the White Witch, who has made it always winter and never Christmas. Lucy meets a faun named Mr. Tumnus, who tells her about the oppressive rule of the Witch. When Lucys siblings initially doubt her story, they eventually enter Narnia together after Edmund, the youngest brother, follows Lucy and encounters the White Witch, who tricks him into betraying his siblings. The four siblings unite to help Aslan, the noble lion and true king of Narnia, who represents good and rightful leadership. Aslan sacrifices himself to save Edmund, but through his death and resurrection, he breaks the Witch's power. The siblings ultimately rally the forces of good, leading to a climactic battle against the White Witch. With her defeat, peace is restored to Narnia, and the Pevensies rule as kings and queens until they eventually return to their world.The novel explores themes of betrayal, redemption, and the battle between good and evil, with Aslan embodying the qualities of courage, sacrifice, and hope. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the second book in C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia.

Pauline Baynes is one of the greatest living children's illustrators whose line illustrations for C. S. Lewis's The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe helped turn it into a well-loved classic which was shortlisted for Book of the Millennium in 2000. Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast in 1898. He wrote numerous books of literary criticism and on Christianity, the best-known being The Screwtape Letters, as well as four novels for adults. The Narnia stories were his only works for children.

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are evacuated from London to Professor Kirke's mansion to avoid the Blitz. During a game of hide and seek Lucy finds a wardrobe which gives her entry to the magical land of Narnia, where animals can talk. But a white witch has laid a spell over the entire land making it winter but never Christmas. Two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve are needed to break the spell and bring spring back to the land. But when the four siblings manage to get into Narnia together things do not go to plan, and a betrayal by one requires the sacrifice of the great lion Aslan if the children are to succeed in their quest.
