Kevin Warwick is an expert in trees. Originally from Canada, he grew up surrounded by the wilderness of western British Columbia where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Forestry. He now lives in the UK where he teaches forestry at agricultural colleges and the Open University. Paulina Morgan works as an independent illustrator based in Santiago de Chile. She studied design before moving to Barcelona, Spain to obtain her master's degree in Art Direction. She worked in advertising before deciding to pursue her passion for illustration.
It's a really engaging mix of exploration, investigation and creativity which encourages children to learn about the natural world in a hands-on way. Essential for life and providing us with food, oxygen and shelter, without trees our planet would be a very different place, so we need to appreciate them; it's easy to take them for granted but this book will help us all realise and remember their significance. -- Parents in Touch * Parents in Touch *
For full-on, comprehensive knowledge, What On Earth? is an immensely high quality non-fiction series. This particular book covers all aspects of trees (for the very young), and also ties the basic scientific knowledge into hands-on activities, as well as interconnecting it with culture and history - something for which cross-curricular teachers will be grateful... this is a fantastic piece of non-fiction in which every page earns its worth - the tree this book originated from would be proud! 6+ years. -- Minerva Reads blog * Minerva Reads blog *
Environmental scientist and tree expert Kevin Warwick joins forces with illustrator Pau Morgan in this new addition to the What on Earth? series and as with previous titles it successfully adopts a cross curricular approach with a mix of information spreads, poetry, a plethora of things to do both scientific and arty; there's even a story about how the Douglas fir came to look the way it does. In short, this is a great way to encourage children to go outside and connect with nature, invitingly illustrated by Pau Morgan. -- Red Reading Hub blog * Red Reading Hub blog *
