Universally acclaimed for his outstanding wildlife illustrations, Paul Geraghty captures the remote beauty of the Antarctic with this haunting story of a penguin family and their struggle to survive the harsh winter. 'In the dark of winter, Floe leapt out of the sea...' After a long journey across the sea, Floe returns to her mate Fin and her new baby, Solo. Now it is Fin's turn to collect food for the family. Weeks pass, but Fin does not return. Weak with hunger, Floe knows she will have to hunt for fish or she and her baby will both starve. Above them the deadly skua birds are on the lookout for easy prey. Will Solo be able to survive alone, and can Floe make the trip in time to save her chick?
