Following the recommendation by the National Literacy Strategy for use of 10-15 minute lesson starters, "Hodder English Starters" is a flexible resource bank offering a wealth of ideas for Key Stage 3 English teachers. The selection of starter activities revises, consolidates and extends the basic skills specified in the Framework of Objectives and each starter adopts an interactive and explicit teaching approach for the whole class. Specific instructions for the teacher are followed by photocopiable/OHT materials and activities, providing the teachers with all the resources required for that particular lesson starter. This extensive guidance helps teachers to effectively deliver the new Framework Objectives within the National Literacy Strategy. "Hodder English Starters: Sentence Level Year 8" looks specifically at the Sentence Level Objectives at Key Stage 3 for students in year 8, and teachers are able to select activities to fit into any course or scheme of work they may be following. This follows the successful "Hodder English Starters: Sentence Level", which was specifically aimed at those in year 7. "Starters" include activities on sentence construction and punctuation, clauses, ambiguity and meaning, tenses, writing dialogue, paragraphs, manipulation of language, standard English and stylistic conventions.
