Part of a series for primary-school history and geography, this book offers suggestions and activities for Key Stage 2 History. Guidance is given on implementing the National Curriculum study units for Ancient Egypt, Invaders and Settlers, Tudor and Stuart Times, Exploration and Encounters 1450 to 1550, and Local History. The section on Invaders and Settlers focuses on the Roman settlement of Britain, in anticipation of the Roman Empire study unit at Key Stage 3. That on local history concentrates on the key issues that need to be addressed for effective planning and teaching of the history of any locality, with particular reference to types of local sources, their availability, and how to use them. The book's contents also include planning grids for each major thematic group which identify the Attainment Targets and Statements of Attainment, suggestions for classroom organization, and ideas and materials for self-supporting activities.

This book is at the following key stages: Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 . A key stage is any of the fixed stages into which the national curriculum is divided, each having its own prescribed course of study. At the end of each stage, pupils are required to complete standard assessment tasks. KS3 covers school years 7, 8 and 9, and ages 12-14 years. KS2 covers school years 4, 5 and 6, and ages 8-11 years.
