"Barefoot: Escape on the Underground Railroad" by Henry Cole follows the story of a young enslaved boy named Little Man. Set in the pre-Civil War South, Little Man dreams of freedom and finds hope in the concept of the Underground Railroad. He discovers a network of allies willing to help him escape to the North. As he journeys through treacherous paths, he faces dangers but also finds courage, friendship, and the unbreakable spirit of those seeking freedom. This poignant tale illuminates the courage and resilience of individuals who sought liberation from slavery, drawing readers into a critical moment in American history.
