"When Marian Sang" by Pam Muñoz Ryan tells the inspiring true story of Marian Anderson, an African American contralto who faced racial discrimination and barriers in her pursuit of a singing career. The book narrates her journey from a young girl singing in church to becoming a celebrated vocalist who performed on the world’s biggest stages, including her historic concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939, which became a symbol of civil rights. Through beautiful illustrations and lyrical prose, the story highlights her resilience, talent, and impact on music and social justice, celebrating her legacy as a pioneer for future generations.
