"The Ransom of Red Chief" is a humorously ironic short story by O. Henry. It follows two kidnappers, Bill and Sam, who abduct a young boy named Johnny, nicknamed "Red Chief," hoping to collect a ransom from his wealthy parents. However, the mischievous child proves to be more than they bargained for, as he delights in causing chaos and treating the situation like a game. As their plans unravel, the kidnappers find themselves desperate to return the boy, realizing that the true burden is the very child they intended to extort money for. The story culminates in a twist of fate that showcases O. Henry's trademark wit and unexpected endings. [Generated by language model - please report any problems].
