Norma Clarke is Professor of English Literature at Kingston University. She is the author of Ambitious Heights, Dr Johnson's Women and The Rise and Fall of the Woman of Letters. Kathryn Hughes in the Daily Telegraph described Dr Johnson's Women as 'the best kind of popular history being produced at the moment: scholarly, fluent and supremely human. ' She has published several novels for children, including Patrick and the Rotten Roman Rubbish. She lives in London. Vanessa Julian-Ottie was born in North London in 1959. After completing a degree course in Graphic Design/Illustration at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, Vanessa did work for the Medici Society and has since worked as a freelance illustrator on numerous titles including, Lucy, Whiskers & Paws and The Polar Bears' Party. Vanessa is married to another freelance illustrator; they live in a small village on Exmoor with their dog Lucy. She enjoys walking, horse-riding, researching World War I aviation, sewing and listening to classical music.
