Nikkie Lees is a freelance illustrator and designer from the West Midlands. Her love of illustration began at a young age; as well as all the normal childhood influences of Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake and Beatrix Potter, her passion for children's books flared after her Aunty Sammie used to send her inspirational books from France. Having gained abundant experience from her First Class Honours Degree, Nikkie Lees has worked with a plethora of high street names, including New Look, Republic, River Island, Topman, Claire's Accessories and House of Fraser. As gratifying as it was to see her creations being sold and worn by many, Nikkie Lees decided to follow her true passion and create illustrated children's books. Nikkie Lees has a particularly special bond with her 11 year old sister, Meg. When Meg was a young child, both Nikkie and Meg were always using their colourful imaginations to create captivating little scenarios. It was this close relationship that inspired Nikkie Lees to create her first book 'Meg's Friend Legs'. In fact, Legs is a character who has been developed from one of the duo's very special 'sister moments'. 'Meg's Friend Legs' is a popular title, which has been extremely well received by children and adults alike, schools and education authorities. Its popularity has led to a number of book sequels (e. g. 'Meg And Legs Go To The Beach'), and further book series (e. g. 'Dan's Friend Hands'). Although the 'entertainment value' is important in her books, Nikkie Lees also believes that well written and beautifully illustrated books are crucial in a child's education and development, and can help shape a young person's mind and creativity. Nikkie Lees's unique digital artwork is the result of a wealth of knowledge. The stories are magical and the illustrations enchanting. Anyone reading any of her books always remembers childhood and how it used to be. No wonder she is a winner of the IJOCS Outstanding Book Awards.
