One day when the warlord is away, traders come and take Chuan from the palace, only to become lost in the desert. Chuan's carved wooden fish works as a compass and saves the day.

Adrian Tans is an accomplished artist who also enjoys traveling. He is the illustrator of Pelican's Pirate Treasure Hunt!, Witches' Night Before Halloween, and Kick the Cowboy. Tans lives in Woodstock, Vermont. Laura Scandiffio is the author of several works of non-fiction for children, including both titles in the Kids at the Crossroads series, Aztec and Crusades. Nicolas Debon has illustrated several historical children's books set in Asia, including The Warlord's series by Virginia Walton Pilegard.
