The poems swing from dejection to exultation in a world where there is so much suffering, so much beauty and so much love. The novella is a modern fairy tale in which a little girl, her dolphin friend and her wise king foil a plot of the wicked President of Armourcania, who is unleashing the world's loudest and most expensive army to impose Democracy and Enduring Freedom on their tiny island. In the end the White Whale floats by, and gives cryptic advice before diving a mile below the Antarctic where the Land of Ice meets the Land of Fire. At the end, a happy painting by Simon Tailor assures us that children, dolphins, ships and lighthouses really can thrive together in peace and sunshine.
