"The Printer" by Myron Uhlberg is a touching story set in the early 20th century, revolving around a young boy named Billy who dreams of becoming a printer like his father. Living in a close-knit Jewish community, Billy admires his father's work and the artistry of printing. However, he faces the challenges of growing up, navigating family responsibilities, and discovering his own identity. The narrative beautifully captures themes of aspiration, craftsmanship, and familial bonds as Billy learns about the power of words and the importance of following one’s passion despite obstacles.
