William Nicholson was for many years a television producer, making documentary films. This led to writing television plays (Shadowlands, Life Story, Sweet as You Are, The March), and then stage plays (Shadowlands, Map of the Heart, Katherine Howard, The Retreat from Moscow) and films (Shadowlands, Sarafina, Nell, First Knight, Gladiator). He is married with three children. S E Hinton wrote THE OUTSIDERS, her first book, when she was 17 - it was a phenomenal success. Its publication enabled her to attend the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma; she graduated in 1970 with a major in education. S E Hinton was the first recipient of the American Library Association Award for an outstanding contribution to Young Adult Literature. She lives in Oklahoma. Joshua Mowll studied at art school before working as a graphic artist for newspapers, including, since 1994, the Mail on Sunday, where he illustrates everything from space flights to medical procedures and aircraft crashes. He lives in London. Tim Wynne-Jones is an award-winning writer of numerous young adult novels. He lives in Perth, Ontario. Robert Swindells is author of the award-winning novel Brother in the Land and has just finished his first picture book for children. He lives in West Yorkshire, England. Frank Cottrell Boyce is an established British screenwriter whose credits include WELCOME TO SARAJEVO, HILARY AND JACKIE and 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE. He lives in Liverpool with his family. Paul Jennings was the first author to sell a million books in Australia. Morris Gleitzman is one of Australia's and now the world's best-known and loved children's authors who tackles tough subjects in a funny and offbeat way.
