It is aimed at Young Adult readers. The term Young Adult (YA) is used for books which have the following characteristics: (1) aimed at ages 12-18 years, US grades 7-12, UK school years 8-15, (2) around 50-75k words long, (3) main character is aged 12-18 years, (4) topics include self-reflection, internal conflict vs external, analyzing life and its meaning, (5) point of view is often in the first person, and (6) swearing, violence, romance and sexuality are allowed.

Savita Kalhan was born in India, but now lives in the UK and studied at the University of Wales. She has travelled extensively, and is keen on tennis and boxing as well as reading. She is married and has a ten-year-old son. Bryony Pearce Bryony Pearce was born in 1976 and has two children. She completed an English Literature degree at Corpus Christi College Cambridge in 1998 and was a winner of the SCBWI anthology Undiscovered Voices in 2008. Katie Dale had her first poem 'The Fate of The School Hamster' published in The Cadbury's Book of Children's Poetry, aged 8 and hasn't stopped writing since. On graduating, she went travelling through South-East Asia - only to discover whilst in a Vietnam internet cafe that she was a winner of the SCBWI 2008 Undiscovered Voices competition. The books in this pack have been written by a range of different authors, all well known writers of teen fiction. They include Anne Rooney, Miriam Halahmy, Julia Clark ( the pseudonym of Fanie Viljoen), Rosemary Hayes, Jo Cotterill, Sue Purkiss, Barbara Catchpole, Tony Lee and Kathryn White. Keren David is a journalist and YA star who has been shortlisted for The Bookseller's YA Book Prize, the UKLA award and the Branford Boase Award, and nominated five times for the Carnegie Prize. Paula Rawsthorne is an exciting new talent in YA fiction. A former social-worker, she writes with passion and authenticity about the issues facing young people today.
