Many of Canada's best-loved children's book illustrators generously agreed to donate artwork to this collection, each choosing a Mother Goose rhyme to illustrate. The artists were given free rein to respond to these age-old rhymes. The remarkable inventiveness and rich variety of the art is proof positive of the vast talent of these illustrators. This wonderful collection is a condensed board-book version of Mother Goose: A Canadian Sampler, first published in 1994 for the benefit of the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program. Established in 1986 to introduce mothers and fathers who need support in parenting to the joys of play and language as exemplified by the Mother Goose canon, the program continues to be an exciting and innovative approach to developing parenting skills. She is the author of I Am Reading: Watch Out William. Marie-Louise Gay is an outstanding artist and children's author. She is the recipient of the Governor General's Award (Canada) as well as numerous other prizes. She lives with her family in Montreal, Canada. Mireille Levert was born in 1956 and at age twelve decided to be an artist. Since 1975 she has illustrated children's books and magazine articles. Her artwork has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, France, Italy and Japan, and has won numerous international awards. Mireille is also the author and illustrator of the Molly books, including "Molly Draws. " Celia Barker Lottridge is a storyteller and multi award-winning author of picture books and novels for children, including The Name of the Tree , Ticket to Curlew , Wings to Fly , and The Little Rooster and the Diamond Button . Formerly a children's librarian and bookseller, Celia was born in Iowa City, Iowa, and lives in Toronto, Ontario.
