Jess bullies Jack. Jack likes Jess despite this. Then a super villain comes to town. His plan? To live forever by draining the childhood out of every kid in their school. And if Jess and Jack don't join forces to beat him, all is lost. It's filled with vivid illustrations from an animated version of the story created by the Award Winning Fettle Animation. Mister Shapeshifter is based on a stage play that has been touring junior schools nationally for several years to the acclaim of children, staff and parents. What kids, parents and teachers said after... Q: What did you enjoy about the play? "EVERYTHING!!" "It was funny and I learnt new things like you always need to tell someone if you are upset" "It was both funny and educational and the characters were so realistic" "It was funny and helped me to understand about abuse and exploitation" "I enjoyed that Jack and his new friend found a solution to their problem and when they helped each other at difficult times" "I enjoyed how it showed how to be safe online" Mister Shapeshifter can be read in many ways. At one level it's a contemporary fairy tale with two plucky kids pitted against a very powerful and very spooky villain. It can be read just for the thrill and pleasure of its gripping story. At another level it's a metaphor for the ways some adults try to control and abuse kids, and how kids can protect themselves and fight back. Read like this, it's perfect for starting group discussions about some of the most difficult issues around.
