Wayne Gretzky: Hockey Player looks at the life and career achievements of "The Great One." Wayne Gretzky is considered by many to be the best hockey player ever to put on skates. Gretzky, who was coached by his father during his childhood, excelled at his chosen sport at an early age and signed his first professional contract at age 18. In the years that followed, he dominated hockey, winning four Stanley Cup championships, igniting the popularity of hockey in the western United States, playing in the Olympics, and setting 61 National Hockey League records in his 20-year career. Gretzky was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2000.
