This text is designed not only to increase students' understanding of the Pacific and its past, but also to develop their skills as historians and their ability to think like historians. The book uses an inquiry approach and each chapter follows a similar pattern which allows students to work their way through a series of activities, using a variety of data and to formulate propositions about the past. Further examination of resource material allows them to examine their propositions and see whether they were possibilities. Each chapter ends with a reflection of those early propositions.
