Case studies cover advances and setbacks in medicine and health through the use of a selection of evidence and challenging activities. Material includes the archaeological evidence found in the "Alpine Ice Man" and from human remains in London's Spitalfields, the interaction of Asian and Western ideas about health in the British Empire and the impact of technology on the treatment of disease and medical conditions. Other case studies chart the contribution of the Ancient Roman, Greek, Egyptian and Chinese and developments during the Middle Ages, the Black Death and the effects of industrialization and war on public health. The role of women in 20th-century medicine is also assessed.
