In the first book in the series, What's the Matter with Newton?, Newton Warp is a mystery, even to himself: He wakes up one day in the library with no idea of who he is, how he got there, or where he came from. Newton is quickly assigned to a dorm and makes a friend: Shelly Ravenholt, who creates living, breathing monsters for fun. He's eager to find out who his family is, but this is high school after all, and he soon has other problems: Newton has to create a last-minute project for the Mad Science Fair and Shelly's friend Theremin (a robot) is really jealous of him. And that's not all: the other students at Franken-Sci High soon realize that Newton has a few useful, but surprising quirks. Wherever Newton came from, they start to suspect that he's not entirely human!

Mark Young's brain is most definitely the result of a mad scientist's experiment-it simply refuses to function like other brains you might know. In the "real" world Mark makes a living as a multiple Emmy winner who has written and produced the animated movies, Once Upon a Forest and All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 as well as worked on a bunch of animated TV shows for Netflix, Disney, ABC, CBS, and NBC. However, in his "inner" world, Mark believes that Franken-Sci High isn't actually his creation but a real school where future mad scientists learn how to create synthetic eyeballs, travel to different dimensions, and design inflatable pets. Mariano Epelbaum is a Character Designer, illustrator and traditional 2D animator. Working professionally since 1996 in various disciplines of Animation and Illustration where characters that designs tend to be very expressive and original. Currently in art direction on several projects, always trying different styles and techniques. As an animation artist, participated in outstanding productions in Argentina, as Character art director and character designer of Foosball, Argentine-Spanish 3D production directed by Juan Jose Campanella, Garcia Ferre movies Manuelita and Corazon, las alegrias de Pantriste; Micaela (Encuadre SA), Bahia Magica (Bitt Animation), the three films "Dibu" and TV series mi familia es un dibujo (Patagonik film Group), and scenes of the film Ogu y Mampaton ( Hook Up Animation). He has also worked in various animated commercials. In the field of illustration collaborated with Spanish publishers Edebe, Planeta De Agostini, Vicens Vives, Bromera, Imaginarium and Estudio Fenix. He also did work for Alfaguara, El Gato de Hojalata, Pictus, Clasa, Grupo Editorial Norma, Puerto de Palos and Ediciones Urano from Argentina and Santillana from Puerto Rico, United States and UK.
