This book is suitable for Key Stage 3. KS3 covers school years 7, 8 and 9, and ages 12-14 years. A key stage is any of the fixed stages into which the national curriculum is divided, each having its own prescribed course of study. At the end of each stage, pupils are required to complete standard assessment tasks. This book is aimed at children in secondary school.

'English Works' is written by Key Stage 3 English Consultants and practising teachers. They are all experienced authors and have written many successful books for English and Literacy. John Catron is Key Stage 3 English Consultant for Redcar and Cleveland, Chris Marshall is Secondary Literacy/English Manager for Brighton and Hove LEA, and Jo Shackleton is Key Stage 3 English Consultant for Slough LEA. Margaret Ryan is a full time writer after a long career as a primary school teacher. She is now an established younger fiction author and travels extensively throughout Scotland, England and Wales visiting schools and libraries. All the authors are experienced classroom practitioners. Linda Hill is a former Head of English and is now a freelance English consultant and OFSTED inspector; Zoe Livingstone is an English adviser for Slough LA; Saira Sawtell is a AST and Head of English at Budmouth Technology College, and was the regional winner in the 2006 Outstanding New Teacher category; Anita Spires is an English consultant at Slough LA; Pat Woolfe is a former Head of English and now an English consultant for Oldham LEA.
